    How do I register:

    Click on the sign-up button and enter your details you will then be added to our obligation free mailing list, all current vacancies are listed and you can apply via the link.

     

    How much do I get paid?

    Regional work pays up to $120 per hour + GST and more for last minute and emergency placements. Optoms who choose to locum with us work when they want. Some long term locums can earn more than double what they have earned in the past.

     

    Are there any join up fees?

    There is no charge to register with us.

     

    Are travel and accommodation paid?

    Yes, all travel expenses are paid for, including a hire car where needed.

     

    How much work will I get?

    Depending on how much locum work is around. Some locums can get all year round work and book themselves well in advance.

     

    Do I get training on the software and products?

    Yes, if you are new to a practice or store, we provide you with a checklist to work through with the manager who will provide on the job training.

     

    Do I need to be registered for GST?

    If you earn above $80K per year, you need to register for GST. In time, you may need to operate through a Company, Trust or Partnership. We recommend that you speak to your accountant for advice.

     

    Do I need to register a business name?

    A locum is a self-employed contractor supplying services, so you will need an ABN. This is free, see https://abr.gov.au/For-Business,-Super-funds---Charities/Applying-for-an-ABN/

     

    Professional Indemnity Insurance

    AHPRA requires you have current PI insurance. If you are a member of OA, PI is included. If not, you need to organise your own PI insurance.

     

    New Zealand Optometrists who would like to locum or work in Australia

    Australian Optometrists who would like to locum in New Zealand
    • You will need to allow about 4 weeks before your intended starting date to get yourself ready and registered
    • Complete a trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Application - a one off fee of $379
    • Complete an application for an Annual Practicing Certificate $754 annual fee
    • Make sure you have PI insurance in place
