We've got a top notch team!
A little more than 16 years ago, Phillip needed assistance at his OPSM store at Waringah Mall in Sydney but couldn’t find any optometrist locum agencies so decided to set up his own. Phillip Fent Locum Services was founded in 2002 with two optometrists on the books.
Phillip Fent Locum Services is now the largest and most well known and trusted Locum Service in Australia with more than 300 regular Locums on the books and long standing relationships with employers.
The business has grown from 1 employee back in 2002 to 5. Phillip does all the back office work, Sally is the office manager, Liette Zografos, a new addition, has joined us as Operations Manager, a great organiser, Liette is well known in optometry circles. Both Phillip and Sally’s daughters also do some work in the business with Mikela in accounts and Laura in Administration.
With the growth of the business comes change and we are excited to be rebranding, our new name is Optom Locum Service. No changes to the structure of the business has been made, we just felt that a new look and branding will carry us well into the future.
We now have offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Hamilton, New Zealand.

Testimonials - why choose Optom Locum Service?
Several Optometrists have provided testimonials, some who have been locums with us for many years and others for for shorter periods.
Kitty Liao, Optometrist, Sydney NSW
I have worked with Sally and Phil for 7 years now, ever since I started locuming. Sally and Phill have been very helpful, and a job booked through them is usually coordinated well, and I don't have anything to worry about. I just fly out, turn up at the practice as I was scheduled to, and start seeing patients.
Sometimes I feel like going somewhere for a working holiday, I drop Sally an email and enquire about a job available in the area I plan to go. They try their best to find a stint for me. It's been very pleasant working with Sally and Phill, and I appreciate their great efforts. A job well done!
I have worked with Phillip Fent locum service for the past six months, providing cover for stores all around Australia. The past six months have been very life enriching, from exploring the country in Parkes, Goulburn, and Armidale, to exploring Australian Coastland in Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Tuggerah-Central Coast, Hervey Bay, Cairns, and also working in cities like Perth, Canberra and Adelaide.
Every week is a new place to travel and is very exciting, that it doesn’t even feel like “work” anymore. In particular, Phill Fent locum service has been fantastic to work for as they are very organised. By emailing through the list of vacancies it provides optometrists with the freedom to select where and when they want to work, also providing flights and accommodation at attractive hourly rates . I highly recommend any Optometrist who is interested in locuming to work for Optom Locum Service.
Working for Phillip Fent locum service across the nation since 2005 has provided me with several professional and personal opportunities, including:
- Significantly increasing my clinical capabilities through the delivery of eyecare to a diverse range of Australians including patients from metropolitan to regional locations, from young to old, and from lower to high socio-economic status;
- Understanding the various issues facing these patients in relation to General Practitioners and Ophthalmologist access;
- Gaining working knowledge of the systems, equipment and prescription lenses used across the sector;
- Travelling the country though working holidays, and preventing the boredom associated with routine;
- Staying in contact with friends interstate, and building new personal and professional relationships;
- Balancing work/life balance when undertaking further study; and
- Saving for those big purchases.
The team at Phillip Fent Locum Service have always provided seamless bookings and been extremely responsive to changing needs. It has been a great pleasure working with Phill and Sally and I would highly recommend exploring the opportunities they can offer - you won't regret it.
I had worked for a very large corporate group for some time before starting to work with Sally and Phill.
They have proven to be great professional support for me over the years.
If you are deciding between working for a large corporation or working as a self-employed locum through Phill and Sally’s agency, I would highly recommend Sally and Phill. They are great to work with.
